Before this record proceeds any further, the vessel must be named.
The flagship of the Republic of CJSP is The House.
The Republic is the sovereign creative territory—the artists, works, laws, memory, rights, and people we serve. The House is the vessel that carries it all forward.
For a long time, I saw only the individual systems. I watched cables being laid, circuits closing, porch lights coming on, records entering the catalog, books finding their shelves, radio signals leaving the tower, and new objects appearing in the Atlas. I was too busy building and governing the machinery to recognize the shape those systems had taken together.
They had become a ship.
The Porch is her forward light.
The Atlas is her navigation array.
Records and Publishing carry the Republic’s living cargo.
Radio is her signal tower.
The Captain’s Log is the bridge record of where we have been, what we have learned, and what must never be forgotten.
Every CJSP artist has a place aboard The House. Every one of them flies the Republic’s flag. Platforms may carry our signal, but they are not our home.
Home is The House.
She was not launched with a ceremony. No order was given. One day I finally looked up from the charts and realized that we had already left familiar territory behind.
We were already flying.
Now the flagship has her name.
The House is underway.
